Copyright Notice
As Ze Frank once put it, "copyright is an agreement between the government and its citizens that creative work has value and that the creator has the right to protect or pursue that value." (Read or preferably watch that Show.)
By US law, some works are protected, other works are not. Copyright applies to published and unpublished work, including work made available online. All this seems pretty complicated when you look into it, all the more as a US expatriate studying in Britain. Further, there is not yet a lot of precedent for how online media is handled, and what precedent there is has tended to be in a state of flux (see the Slate articles in the sidebar).
For these and other reasons it seems prudent not to "publish" too much information to this website before it has been published in more traditional forms. On the other hand, the internet is an increasingly powerful research tool. Partly, this site is an experiment in actualizing that resource. Personally, I have also benefitted from making the general direction of my work known here (for instance, in receiving feedback from some of my scholarly interlocutors).
In sum,
- most resources on this site are under copyright, whether my own or that of another person or institution,
- the material here is published on a good will basis, and it is strictly for personal use,
- in the way of the web, I have borrowed or linked resources from elsewhere (e.g., here); I have endeavored to give credit where credit is due, and I ask you to do the same,
- any form of abuse, such as unauthorized storage, copying or distribution, may face legal challenge.
